14th Spare hole

Hi Everyone,
We have had a terrible time with the weather on the new spare hole, the shapers arrived on April 2nd only to get one days work completed before the heavens opened up and with our heavy clay soil they were unable to work for the remainder of that week.  We were able to get back on the site the following Monday only to be rained out again until Wednesday afternoon, and with a few more days of rain the shapers have returned to Melbourne to allow us to get all the drainage and new irrigation in before they get back in town to finish of the hole.  Out of a possible 14 days work we have only been able to get on site 6 days which has pushed our finish date out a week or so, we originally wanted the turf down by Anzac day however we wont be able to reach that target

Here are some pictures of the works so far:

Gravel getting installed on the greens sub-base
Heavy rain on Tuesday 16th April putting halt to proceedings
Bunker 40m short of the green roughly shaped up
Greenside bunker roughly shaped up

I will keep posting some more photos as we keep progressing with the new hole

Ryan

Spare hole prep continues

We continue to prepare the site for the golf course shapers, who are due to arrive next Tuesday after Easter.  We have completely moved the stormwater pipe that used to run directly through where the new green is to be located, all the tree roots and stick etc. have been removed, we have stockpiled the topsoil from the green site and stockpiled several areas of clay to use as a sub-base to the new green, staked out the shape of the new green, cleaned up the site as we moved along and it is now ready for the professionals to come in and weave their magic next week.

Green site pegged out for shapers arrival next week

Ready for action!!! Ben chambers (from golf shaper) gear arrived this week

Storm water in and getting backfilled

Topsoil stockpiled for use on the green surrounds

We will see the green emerge from the green reasonably fast with the green sub-base shaped up within a few days together with the drainage and gravel being installed later next week if all goes to plan

I will keep you updated next week as progress with this green

Tree root and Irrigation removal

As mentioned earlier there are large numbers of tree roots in the ground we are going to be using for the new spare hole, we used a 20 tonnes excavator to rip through these roots and physically removed them all. this will be done again before the shapers arrive on site.

Some of the pipework removed from the old feed to the 14th green and 50mm mainline running through the middle of the new hole.

14th spare hole

Hi everyone,
We have made a start on the spare hole to be built at the rear of the 14th green, all the trees have been removed, stumps grinded and the majority of tree roots removed.  Considering the number of trees removed which was close to 80, there is a massive amount of root material throughout the ground, we are trying to remove as much of this as possible to allow the shapers to have a free flow of works when they arrive on the 2nd April.  Below are some photos of the tree removal, which was again undertaken by Greentree Tree Removals.

 Making a start

Only a few large trees at the new green site remain

All trees removed

Like the priority one playing line tree removals Doug and his crew did a great job removing both the trees and grinding down all of the stumps

Priority One Tree Removal - Playing Lines

Morning everyone,
Last week we kicked of the priority one tree removal as part of the course development plan, our contractors Greentree Tree and Stump Removal did a great job with Doug and the boys getting stuck in removing approximately 60 trees throughout the golf course in the first week including the stump grinding.  The course staff are coming in behind these guys and removing the stump grindings together with preparing the areas to be returfed.  below are some photos of the different areas where the tree removal has taken place:

2nd hole before removal

2nd Hole with the tree on the RHS removed, you can actually see the entire green and bunker

13th tee shot during the removal with one melaluca to be removed

I will endeavor to get some more pictures up here for everyone over the next few days

Course Development

Hi Everyone,

It has been a while since my last update, apoogies for that, we have been busy with the usual summer stresses with some really hot weather over the summer the course staff was busy keeping the course alive and ticking over for the membership.  Whilst busy out on the course, in the background we have had planning for the development works out on the golf course have been in full swing.  We have achieved the following for the upcoming works:
  • Final approval from the regional planning panel for the rebuilding of greens, tees, fairway bunkering, new dam, enlarging the current dam and extensive tree removal
  • Obtained a Construction Certificate (C.C) to commence the work
  • Obtained qoutes and have chosen contractors for tree removal, green / tee shaping and irrigation supply
We have started the initial tree removal with trees impacting on the playing lines removed last week.  I will follow up this post with some before and after pictures.

Drainage between 2 and 3

Morning everyone,
This week are installing some drainage alongside the maintenance path that runs through the 2nd and 3rd holes.  over the past wet 12 months water is constantly running down this path from all the way up to teh bowls and this water was eventually running accross the 3rd fairway making it consireably wetter in certain areas.

We have install two pits together with a drain  to pick up this water and stop it crossing the fairway.  We were lucky enough to have a 650mm stormwater running through the 3rd fairway in which we could tap into.

Please see the pictures below of the works

 Digging the trench

The join with 650mm stormwater for both the pits and drain

Drain to pick up any water that gets past the two pits
